Fortress Petrich Kale is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the region of Varna. It is located over 100 meter rock walls and it dates back to early Byzantine from V-VI C.  It is  believed it was destroyed and restored during the 11-12 century. It was captured in 1444 – the last crusade by the army of the Polish-Hungarian King Vladislav III Yagello. petrich Kale was an important pillar of defensive system of the Medieval Bulgarian state. The name “Petrich” comes from the Greek “Petrin” – Stone Fortress.
